It’s been a long time since I have posted anything on Deviant Art but like always, I have immersed myself in creativity through many different sources, including DA. I have been developing my own limited artistic range in sporadic patterns, only recently giving those patterns a fraction of the attention they deserve, the most they have received in a while. Art as a form of expression is important and it’s that simple statement that always brings me back to art and now… Deviant Art.

It seems that here in Vancouver yet another incident has plagued the upcoming 2010 winter Olympics, a 1 Billion dollar incident. It started with rumors that became secrets and secrets that became facts. Facts then became justice.

The construction of the Vancouver athletes’ village, the traditional form of housing for athletes at every Olympic event, has been threatened yet again by strong accusations of “cutting corners” by professionals overseeing the process. These “corners” include not insulating pipes resulting in large amounts of rust and mould around areas of the construction site. If the city can’t even use a billion dollars to build a little village for a bunch of people who will only use it for sleep then how is it supposed to convert a smaller amount of tax payer cash to fund any sort of solution to the growing homeless problem? Oh right, it isn’t.

I had a good time amongst the light hearted crowds shopping at the always bustling annual Night Market yesterday but in retrospect I wonder if everyone saved the twenty dollars of spending money they brought and donated it to the cause of an ex KGB agent confined in a church basement somewhere downtown, would the man who moved to our city to pursue a normal life after dedicating his youth to heroically partake in dangerous activities for his country finally have enough money to pay for a decent lawyer and possibly avoid deportation for a few more measly years?

Of course there are worse ways to spend money than at the Night Market so I should really be picking on those who over-tip hot waitresses even if they provide terrible service. Most of us are guilty of that, though.


There is a very personal scrap of my writing to the left of this entry. I didn’t say good I said personal.

I adore my city but…
